Infertility Support and Discussion
I just made an appt with Dr Reh at Dominion Fertility in their Fair Oaks office, what should I expect for a first visit?
Most visits to an RE include a review of your medical records including any tests done pertaining to infertility. If you are totally new to infertility then they will outline the tests needed for you and your husband, and once you get those done they will talk to you about treatment options.
Is she new? I am a patient of Dr Gordon's and I know he 's away on vacation but I'm due to start my cycle soon so I'm curious about their other docs.
hate to hijack the post but am hoping that someone can also add if tests are ever done during the first appt (ie semen analysis) or do you have to schedule follow up appts?
It depends on where you are in your cycle -- most of the female bloodwork is on the third day or your cycle (perhaps plus or minus a day). Men are not supposed to have ejaculated for a certain period (maybe 2-3 days ideally? I can't remember). You could ask when you schedule. There are also other diagnostic tests that you might need - HSG is on the 6 (?) day of cycle and searches for blocked tubes, I think it's fairly common diagnostic. Sorry I can't remember the exact dates it's been a while but you could probably google.

At both the appointment for the male factor RE and my RE, both doctors took a FULL history from both of us. I actually brought past blood work and cycle charts but my RE threw them out and said he only looks at his own lab's tests. We also took results from a previous semen analysis to DH's appointment and that RE looked at them but still wanted his own test. The first appointment was just talking and setting out a plan. They did draw blood to figure out where I was in my cycle but not for hormone analysis.
DH's RE gave us a protocol to follow for about a week before DH went in for his semen analysis and blood work. My Schedule went like this: Day 1 - called the RE to make an appt. for Day 3 Day 3 - blood work and sono Day 9 - HSG Day 12 - blood work and sono to determine trigger shot timing That's as far as I've gotten, I'm on my first monitored cycle now and my HSG is tomorrow. |
My first appt with Dr.Reh went well she's really nice, but we weren't able to do any tests today and we have to schedule them with my next period. My DH can do his part any time but mine has to be scheduled based on my first day.
