Generic progesterone & mode of delivery

Anonymous
History of unexplained RPL - I took 100mg oral Promethium with my last pregnancy (different state out West).

I just recently took a test this past weekend and then called my OB to ask about getting on the same medication.

No issues there, but with my current OB, it's a generic progesterone (Xiromed manufacturer) and it's 200mg to be taken vaginally?

At first I thought it was the cream but no, it's a pill that you can also take orally, but my OB said to take it vaginally.

Has anyone taken this specific medication by Xiromed and taken it vaginally, too?

If so, what have your experiences been?

Sending everyone love and good vibes!

*Prometrium - thanks, autocorrect 🤦🏼‍♀️

SGF had me do this. It was fine. You’ll have a lot of white discharge from the capsules melting, so wear a panty liner 24/7 and change it a couple times a day. I wouldn’t worry about this too much, it’s really not that much of a hassle and you’ll get used to it quickly.

I took oral progesterone and didn’t have issues

I have taken the vaginal suppository when at Shady Grove, Columbia Fertility and Dominion Fertility. When dosed correctly, it works.

I’m not sure of the exact brand but I did take vaginal progesterone through several IUI cycles at Shady Grove. It’s pretty typical AFAIK.

I took this same medication and it worked for me!

There have been some supply chain shortages with progesterone suppositories over the past year or so. That maybe driving some of the medication decisions.

If you have not yet heard of or consulted with a reproductive immunologist (RI, not RE) you should. Progesterone in any form will not stop your losses.

RIs don't believe in vaginal progesterone as it can be irritating so they have us do injections and oral (if needed and supported by bloodwork)

Are you in treatment with a RE? You can go down rabbit holes trying to address RPL and potential causes. I think progesterone is one of those treatments that might help and is inexpensive…along with baby aspirin, folate and others. I went down many of these, but eventually ended up doing IVF that addressed the fundamental issue which was my age. Progesterone was part of the protocol both times - suppositories for my fresh transfer and progesterone in oil injections for my FET. IVF supplied the viable embryos - my next 2 pregnancies became my two sons.
