Starts?

What's the name of the class to look into to teach a child how to do starts properly and where would I find these classes? Is it just diving?

"Starts and turns" clinics are what you are looking for. You can also take lessons with a coach at your pool and work on these things, too.

Who offers these clinics?

If you’re a member of a summer pool, do the coaches offer lessons? My long time swimming kids do this (coaching & lessons). Most experienced teens at summer pools offer this.

Where are you located?

Fitter and Faster, SwimLabs, Navy, I think sometimes FINS, likely many, many others. MoCo also has Stroke and Turn clinics during the regular school year, although they don't do a huge amount of work on starts (you'd have to ask how much). But like PPs said, private lessons can do great work on this as well.

Fitter and faster is not good at all. Way too many kids of varying abilities & the instructors give very little indiv feedback to your child bc there are so many kids there. Navy camps arw over I think and are for older kids, aren’t they?

Navy is over for the year but generally enrolls super early. I don't know how young they go but I know 10yos who went.

If you are looking for your kid to work on them this season ask one of the coaches or one of the yr round swimming teens for a lesson or two that’s what we did for both starts and flip turns.
