DC just got notification that they got in as TJ Sophomore. Are there any courses that Froshomores need to re-take or can they continue the offered TJ courses in the regular sophomore year? |
Did you child take SAT/PSAT? My DC got rejected, and is very sad. |
DC took PSAT in 9th grade. |
What is the percentile of PSAT? |
What math did they take in 9th? If they got in as a froshmore, they probably have the raw ability to succeed there. |
I don’t think they’d need to retake anything. Except maybe CS. If they’ve taken CD at base school, it might not be enough to match TJ intro CS. Bio might be dicey but can probably get by. If they plan to take AP bio they may need to put in some extra time. Otherwise should be fine. |
The selection criteria seems good. There is no statistics or data to verify/validate how the froshmore's from class of 2025 onwards are doing. If they do good and it is published then it will be motivation for more great students to apply |
I think they have to take RS1 and Design and Tech? That eats up their available course slots. Also if they have done 3 credits of any language from LCPS then I think it is usually recommended to repeat language -3 before taking AP course for that language in Sophomore year? |
I wish they would publish data. They know exactly how to select for merit. We have known how to select for merit since the 1950s (we didn't do it then for racist reasons and we don't do it now for different racist reasons). |
They are doing very very well. For privacy I would not comment much more. |
OP - Congrats to your kid. No need to retake anything. A temp counselor would be assigned to you and you can talk to them. They would go over the options - there is very little choice. So no need to stress yourself.
They would ask you to fill in courses, which was scary looking and inconsistent - hope it is fixed now. But those are all temp, you get very good support and the courses would be reviewed and counselor would reach out to you. Again, just enjoy and there is nothing to worry at this point. |
How many froshmores are admitted each year? Last year? |
15 to 20 each year (from class of 2025). This means around 30-40 froshmores from class of 2025 and 2026 (after new admission criteria). |
Is it worth being a Froshomore at TJ if your freshman year at an LCPS school has been quite easy with straight A's? How much the GPA would suffer in keeping up with TJ rigor? |
That's a long way to go when the Loudon Academies exist. |
