Shark vacuums - top heavy?

Anonymous
I've read a lot of positive reviews about Shark uprights and am currently in the market to replace an aging Kenmore canister vacuum. I was at my sister's house over the weekend and tried out her Shark Lift Away upright vacuum and found it quite top heavy and bulky. I liked the swivel but it felt like the middle part of the machine carried the bulk of the weight. I guess I'm used to the old fashioned style upright where the bulk of the weight is at the floor and it's not as heavy on your hand. Does that make any sense? For those of you with the Shark, is this something you get used to over time?

I had one of the first Shark uprights that wasn't a lift away and found it to maneuver well. I "upgraded" to a Lift Away model a few years later and I couldn't stand the bulkiness of it. It would actually hurt my wrist to use it. I ended up going with a Riccar upright that looks a lot like the Panasonic upright my parents had growing up. Most of the weight is right at the bottom so it's like that old school set up pp mentioned.

Omg, I hated my lift-away. It fell over all the time. Stupidest machine ever.

What did you get to replace it? Are you happy with your current machine?
