19 year old released after armed robbery in April commits shooting in June

19 year old Elijah Hernandez was just arrested for shooting someone during an attempted carjacking in June, according to this MPD press release:

https://mpdc.dc.gov/release/mpd-makes-arrest-northwest-shooting

Upon further investigation, it becomes clear that this is the same individual charged with an armed robbery in April.

Very interesting that the DC justice system won’t consider pretrial detention despite seeing numerous examples where it would have prevented shootings, and even murders.

They don’t have room in jails for this.

Well he's only 19. That guy who shot at the woman and child in her car and got time for it (after being extradited from Costa Rica) is in his 40s. And from Maryland.

Carjacking used to be considered a really threatening and serious crime .

Only in DC does armed carjacking turn into:

Count 1: UUV, 1st Offense (misdemeanor)
Count 2: possession of an UF (misdemeanor)

Wow if I knew possession of an unregistered firearm was only a misdemeanor I would’ve carrying years ago before permit laws were made equitable.

Np, because if you are at all law abiding they go after you for the most minor infractions to make an example of you.

Plenty of for profit prisons he could be stored at until trial time.

I’ve seen worse. Demonte Hewitt, 22, was on probation for his role in a 2018 murder and in 2022 in Montgomery County pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, first-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault and use of a handgun in commission of a crime of violence.

Most of DCUM is over the age of 25 so you would be prosecuted in DC.
