How does realtor compensation work?

Anonymous
In looking over the paperwork from my house sale last year, I saw that our buyer's agent made about $25,000 representing us in our purchase. How much of that does he/she actually see? i.e. what goes to the real estate firm vs. what did he/she earn for them themselves? (this is not a post to complain about realtor compensation....I am just nosy/curious)

Agent here. It depends-newer agents or agents that don't do much business typically will keep 50% of the commission. Experienced agents that do a lot of business-typically 85-90 percent. It also varies depending upon the brokerage.

No need for multiple comments as PP answered the question. Enjoy your lame conspiracy theories elsewhere.

You need to ask for some credit on these easy deals from the buying agents. I have done it several times and they offer it back when asked.

+1

Gone are the days when agents keep all the commission. You don't get if you don't ask.
