Is family therapy appropriate for 8 Year old? Or individual therapy?
Has anyone btdt to help child cope with living with anxious, depressed spouse? Spouse is in individual therapy and is medicated. We did couples counseling. |
| Individual therapy is fine for an 8 year old. He might have some anxiety of his own that he keeps quiet about. At this age they usually play games and talk |
Yes i think my child is anxious. She asked that i do therapy with her, which is why i asked about family therapy. |
| Often the therapist will ask a parent to sit in if the child requests it, but the therapy is individual for the child. |
It really depends on how the issues with the 8 year old are presenting. |
| Child therapist here! Typically I work individually with the child and with the parents, and then bring them together on certain occasions. If a child is nervous about meeting with me, I will usually let parents sit in for the first couple of sessions but honestly, almost every child I have worked with has eventually become comfortable. It is a lot of games and "lessons" so it feels familiar to kids and not super intimidating. |
| Play therapy is great |
