Has anyone here changed their name legally? What was your personal evolution and how did you feel when it was done? How do you feel now?
Not talking about maiden names or the paperwork process. Interested in your story. |
| I changed my name from Laura Marie to “Exotic Treasurehunt’ to honor my heritage. |
| Yes, My first 2 names rhymed and sounded a little perverted so I changed my second name. |

I’ve wanted to change my last name since I was a teenager. My father is an abusive alcoholic who blighted my life and he also has a crap last name which got me bullied mercilessly for much of my childhood so I didn’t want to carry it all of my life.
Then I went to college and got degrees with the name on it and felt like it would be a PITA to change it for reasons other than marriage. I never got married and I’m not planning on it now (I’m 53), so I’ve been again contemplating a name change and just trying to decide on the name before looking into the legal process where I live. Part of my issue is that I come from a long line of abusive patriarchs and I don’t want to swap out one a-holes name for another a-holes name. So I’ve been trying to figure out how to pick a name. The person in my life who did the most to love and nurture me was my grandmother, so I’m considering using her given name as my new last name. It’s not unheard of as a last name, but isn’t terribly common. What do you think of Larla Dorothy? |
I love the idea of using grandmother's name.
