Sit bone pain while cycling

Anonymous
I've been increasing my rides to 30- 40 miles. I'm finding that even after weeks, I still have to get off my bike for a few minutes every 5-7 miles because it hurts to sit on the seat. I do stand up periodically, have been professionally fitted and wear good shorts. I'm mid 50s. I used to cycle as a teen and don't remember this pain. Help!

Ever since I had my first child, I can’t sit on a bicycle for more than 15-30 minutes before things are numb or hurt like crazy. I have tried all sorts of seats.

Try a new seat perhaps. Or you may just need your bike adjusted. Or to see a PT. I have had my stem raised, which helped some of my pain. I also got a new saddle, which helped some; a smaller seat with female-specific cutouts is most comfortable for me. I finally saw a PT that had a focus on cyclists; she watches me ride and then had me adjust how I was sitting by increasing my pelvic tilt and that stopped the pain.

try different bibs and saddle
It also take time to get used to it

What kind of bike are you riding? Are you able to balance some weight in upper body so it’s not all on your sits bones?

You will build calluses. It hurts for about a week.
