600K budget, kid with SN, large family, looking to move from DC into suburbs

Where should I look? We are priced out of DC rentals. We cannot afford private school. One kid has ADHD/ASD and needs support in mainstream education. 3 kids, and elderly relative is living with us, so we need a large-ish home. An in-law suite would be nice so my kids don't drive her crazy. We need to stay in the greater DC area for work, but a longer commute is fine.

Compared to NW charter schools, which school system is better, and where the heck can I find a house that fits my budget?

Look in the Special Needs forum. This is really a school/district question, rather than Real Estate.

Good recent topic:

Check out Calvert County MD. They have great programs in public school for ASD students. Many homes in your price range.

What commute do you need?

Calvert County! I think you’ll be amazed by how far your money goes there.

Or Baltimore or Hagerstown ... amazing schools, communities and affordability!

This is a great elementary school, for kids with and without disabilities. You'd need to add a shower or something to the downstairs bathroom for the elderly person, and possibly a stairlift, but it's well designed for that.

I think one of the farther counties is probably the answer so the specifics of the commute are really important.

Yea, I would research schools first and really dig and ask parents of children with the same SN how that school REALLY handles it. What SN is it? My two children with dyslexia need to go to a private school full stop but we apply for financial aid so I would hate for you to move, and then find yourself in a similar situation because the public school is just gaslighting you.

Redfin will find the house. Then you have to decide the best district out of the houses you can afford.

Sounds like you need to go on Zillow and filter for 600k houses with X bedrooms and watch your daily emails. When you find houses you like, look at the schools.

Lol a big house is not happening on that budget. Townhouse maybe.
