Auto Insurance?

Anonymous
Hi - Female, early 30s. No accidents, one ticket for running a stop sign (accidentally!) 10 years ago at this point.

My parents have had me on their auto insurance since I learned to drive. (I actually thought I was taken off years ago.) My mom texted me tonight at said that as a heads up she wanted to let me know my siblings and I are being removed from their auto insurance at the end of the month and she wanted to let me know so I could get coverage before then.

I live in DC and don't even own a car. I think the last time I drove was my ex-bf's car maybe two years ago?

Do I need coverage in this instance?

No, not til you get your own car.

Car insurance is insurance for a car… you do not have a car.

Car insurance is for the car, not the driver. If you rented a car or drove your bf's a lot I would say yes, get non-owner, but not in this instance.

You need non-owner liability insurance for the times you rent/borrow someone’s car (also cheaper than getting the rental policy one if you rent frequently for weekend getaways). GEICO offers this-not sure what others do, but I had to call around asking.
