Anyone read Crazy Rich Asians lately?

My daughter (11) watched the movie with me and loved it. She wants to read the books. I can’t remember if they were inappropriate in any way. I generally don’t stop my kids from reading anything but this is sort of a recommendation from me. Does anyone remember?

I finished reading the first book less than 2 weeks ago (posted about it on the June what are you reading thread).
There is a part of the book that involves a bachelor party. The bachelor party participants watch a dog fight where the dogs fight to the death. Then the group in the bachelor party does hookers and drugs.
There is a woman in the book who likes to dress like Kanye West's girlfriend does.
There are descriptions of a physically and sexually abusive ex husband.

Those parts are only about 10 percent of the book.

There are a LOT of parts of the book about catty, spiteful, gossipy young (and old) women.

I would have her wait a few years. Its tone reminds me of Sex and the City - very adult and very funny.

Keep in mind that there are a lot more story lines in the book vs the movie. Nothing explicit, but there are storylines about infidelity and other adult themes. I do think 11 is too young, but I also hesitate to restrict books. My daughter loved the movie and the book series - she was a little older though. I would let her read it and she may get bored or confused by the book.

Op here - Thank you all! Really appreciate this. I will hope she forgets and see if we can wait a couple years.
