Dulles Departure Delays 6/15

sitting at gate for 3 hours then taxing for 45 mins+. still waiting on runway. bad day.

It's just OP's flight, not airport-wide

Dulles is showing "Normal" status from FAA. Total general delays are < 15 minutes.

I'm guessing OP is flying to an area with weather and they aren't getting clearance to start the journey, from the arriving airport.

This. Always fly first thing in the morning, especially in summer.

There is the air show at air and space museum. Traffic had to stop this afternoon for them all to leave

Air traffic?? but it wouldn't have caused 3, 4 hours delay, no way.

Looks like you just had bad luck- probably a maintenance issue that wasn't detected until the plane was getting prepped for departure? None of the other flights leaving Dulles around mid-day yesterday were delayed, including the ANA flight to Tokyo that left 10 minutes before your scheduled departure time.
