Stockholm, Sweden

We are visiting Sweden later this summer for 8 days with a teenager, flying in and out of Stockholm. We would love some advice on itinerary as we have never been there. We like a bit of everything. I am more of a city break person and DH is more of a get out in nature person, but all three of us are happy with either type of trip. For those of you familiar with the area, wwyd? Stay the entire time in Stockholm and take short day trips? Split our stay between different cities or towns? Is there anything we should make sure not to miss in the area?

8 days is a lot of time in Stockholm. Did you not do any research before booking your trip?

You could take an overnight ferry to Helsinki, Finland and back

That’s what people said about Copenhagen as well but I stayed there for 10 days and had a great time.

Her question is literally where else to go during those 8 days.

Such a weird, useless response.

Was just there a few weeks ago. Wish we had time to take the overnight ferry to Helsinki! I really wanted to do that.

-Go on a boat tour of the archipelago and/or check out some of the islands, too.
-Vasa museum
-Hang out on the water
-Walk all over the place. Stayed in Gamla Stan and it was awesome. Everything is walkable from there.
-There’s fun shopping. Obviously go to IKEA!

JMO 5 days went by pretty fast there, so with a trip to Helsinki and some of the surrounding areas you would have an awesome, relaxed trip!

Definitely the ferry to Helsinki (swim in the Allas Sea pool!) and don't miss the Vasa. We loved it all.

That is encouraging to hear. A relaxed trip is part of the point for us. We can usually stay longer in a single place than most people, since we don't like to rush through. We may just use Stockholm as a base to stay the entire time and just take day trips, though am also thinking of splitting the time between there and Gothenburg, which is 5 hours away by train. The Gamla Stan looks very nice. I am trying to research which islands to visit in the archipelago, in case you have suggestions? Thanks!

Go to Skansen open air museum in Stockholm, see changing of the guard at the palace, and with 8 days maybe also to Gotland. VIsby is lovely!

Thanks, Visby sounds intriguing!

MAX actually makes a very good burger for when your teen has a burger craving. Sweden loves terrible Mexican food for some reason, but definitely avoid.
