Field Hockey Try-Outs

My DD (U12) has played rec field hockey past few years and is interested in joining a club team for more focused instruction. Hoping to gain some insight into when try-outs for the fall are typically held (or did we miss the boat on this?).

She played travel soccer so we are used to the try-out experience where most kids make a team. Is that the case here or is it very selective?

We're in NOVA so any insight into clubs near Fairfax, Herndon, Reston, or Ashburn area would be great too.

Check out the 40 page field hockey thread. It lists all the clubs. There is very little in VA.

The Northern Virginia clubs are Hammers, Xtreme, Husel, Metro, Mustangs, and Jackels. You should follow their social media to find tryout dates.

Some are very competitive, others are more likely to find a spot for newer girls. That spot may be on a developmental team instead of their club/travel team if they only have one “travel” team per age group.

Clubs have different reputations which you can learn more about on that long FH thread.

Also ignore this person. There are plenty of clubs in VA. There are a couple of FH parents (?) on this forum that seem oddly passionate about spewing negativity.

I know Mustangs (Perfect Performance) recently had try-outs and are actively looking for younger U10 girls so imagine may have a need for U12 too.
