I've seen them for a week or so. Terrifying to see them in June. We usually don't see them until July or August (native Washingtonian here). |
I've been seeing them for at least a week now, too. |
Why is it terrifying to see them now? We have been seeing them for a month in Anacostia |
As I said in the other thread, my DD’s birthday is this week, and we have always said since she was little that the fireflies always come out in time to wish her a happy birthday. Late June is standard for fireflies in the DC area. |
Terrifying!!!!
Lol. |
????? Do they have a limited life cycle or something? Going to need more than an anecdotal story to qualify as terrifying |
+1. I don’t this is unusually early. What was “terrifying” to me was how few there were last year. I am beyond thrilled that there are so many this year. Lightning bugs are truly one of life’s simple pleasures. |
no, this is when they always show up. there is literally nothing terrifying about them. accept maybe how few there seem to be. |
It's like the cherry blossoms coming early. When things are off in the biome, it can kill off species. They are part of a food web. https://www.science.org/content/article/color-changing-hare-cant-keep-climate-change |
+1 No way to August, OP. |
I just moved to this area. I haven't seen lightening bugs since I was a little kid! It was such a joy to see so many of them last night when I was walking the dog. I did a double take and thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.
So this is normal here? I am (pleasantly) stunned!!! |
Are you talking about fireflies? They've always come out here in DC in June. Maybe out west in Washington it's different? |
I grew up here and remember catching fireflies every year before school let out for summer break. Late May/June is right on time for fireflies.
You’re out of your damn mind talking about July or August. I dunno what your game is or what you’re trying to imply, but you suck at it. |
If there’s fewer of them, blame your dumbass neighbors (or yourself) for spraying for mosquitoes. If all these delicate flowers on this forum weren’t so absolutely terrified of Larlo getting a mosquito bite, we’d have a lot more lightning bugs. |
They have came out in June for the past 14 years that I've lived here. |
