Hot flashes-how many?!!! And bee pollen?

Anonymous
I am 53 and still get my period but lightly due to mirena.

I just got my first hot flash maybe a month ago and in the past few days it has ramped up. It feels non stop. I started counting—about 18 in the past 24 hours (a little fuzzy about how many last night). I am drenched at night and so uncomfortable.

Going to make an appt to discuss hrt. But what the heck? It’s like every hour.
I also get a weird tingling feeling before hand. I’m dreading trying to sleep!

If you had a lot of hot flashes did hrt or anything else help you? My friend swears by bee pollen ….

HRT mostly stopped mine. I was sleeping with an ice pack in the pillowcase.
Alcohol increased mine even on HRT
Room too hot is bad.
Sleep cold.

Black Cohosh.

Soy keeps hot flashes away for me. If I don’t have soy milk, edamame every day the hot flashes and other symptoms come back. Doesn’t take much, but it makes a world of difference for me.

Summer is worse.

This happened to me last month at age 45. It only lasted 2-3 weeks and they are totally gone now.

It might not be from now forever, is what im saying.

HRT is definitely worth looking into, and GWU MFA obgyn are really good about it.

So sorry OP. Get HRT asap.

This was me at 47 and it was two months of misery and recalling my mom getting hot flashes into her 70s.

DP: How much soy milk do you need to drink for it to make a difference and does time of day matter?

I used Estroven complete multisymptom (you can get it on Amazon and it's not black cohosh). It's been a game changer. My sister recommended it, and it works. My doctor said I cannot take HRT until periods completely stop - still erratic.

I generally put 1/4 cup in my coffee and have a cup of steamed edamame every evening.

Get in with your doctor soon for systemic estradiol. Hot flashes are not just annoying.

“ Research suggests that women who have hot flashes may have an increased risk of heart disease and greater bone loss than women who do not have hot flashes.”

This isn’t true, if you’re interested in a second opinion.

I meant that it’s not true that you have to wait until your periods stop to take HRT.

Thank you . I am interested, if you can explain further My doctor wanted to wait until 6 months between and told me to come back then. So I've been taking the estroven in the meantime, getting occasional periods, and everything feels quiescent. It's been a year and a half and my period is still waxing and waning.

I also want to mention that some studies have shown a connection between hot flashes and seasonal allergies. Mine always kick in harder in the spring in this area and until the estroven kicked in, I took some antihistamines--but again, the estroven has been amazing.
