How often do you scratch or ding your car?

Haven't been driving for too long (lived in a city all my life) and I just scratched one of the rims of the car I got almost three years ago. Scraped a street curb. I feel so stupid. I'm curious, for more seasoned drivers, how often does this happen? Should I get it changed or will this inevitably happen again some time soon?

I’ve done it maybe 3 times in 7 years? My husband does it more. It is up to you if you fix it — it actually depends more on how frequent this particular issue will be.

Scraped it myself? Three times in 7ish years. Came out of a store to find a new giant scrape on it in a parking lot? 4 times in 7 years.

Every once in a while my car gets hungry and eats a curb.

Oh wow, my 10 yo car has all kinds of scratches. Light ones from clearing snow, some good scrapes from parking garages, little scratches by the door handles. I'm sure the rims are scratched but that's the least of it.

OP here. This is making me feel better, thank you!

I ding it a few times in the first 1-2 weeks after I get it. Then not again until the lease it up. Rinse and repeat.

We had our brand new car for 3 weeks and someone put a big ding/scrape in our driver side door. It took off the paint!

It was street parked and it was probably another car that scraped against it. We asked the neighbors for their camera footage, but their camera was not working.

We filed a hit & run police report and made an insurance claim. It actually cost around $3K to fix, plus we had a rental car for like 10 days.

We've since had multiple small dings, knicks, and rim scratches. Some were our fault (those Trading Joes parking garages and spaces are so narrow!) and some just happened randomly.

But nothing has been as serious as that first scratch right after getting our car.

What happens when the lease is up? Do they charge you out the butt for dings and scratches?

Almost never. The damage on my car is from a hit and run

No those are wear and tear. Never been charged for any damages.

Car is three years old and I just scratched the rim a few months ago. I am very careful with my cars. I don't like they to be all dinged up.

Me? Practically never.
My husband and son? Big scrapes.
Hit-and-run is responsible for a giant scrape on the entire side of my car. I just applied anti-rust and left it at that.

We are all in agreement that we need to buy reliable and cheap Japanese cars, and not do any cosmetic fixes.

On road never but my jeep has accumulated a decent collection of trail rash.

5 minutes after I buy a new one some giant rock gets kicked up by one of the areas enormous pickups without mudflaps and puts a big old dent somewhere
