Uncooked canned soup ok?

Anonymous
Please weigh in food scientists and others:
Is ok to use canned soup straight from the pantry without reheating/boiling it first?

This is a meat chilli if it matters

I’m not a food scientist, but I’ve done it. The soup is cooked and canning keeps out bacteria. Meat chilli served at room temperature, right from the can, might have some fat that’s separated out and is less appetizing, but it should be safe to eat.

I don’t see how it’s any different than eating canned meat (tuna, SPAM, etc.)

Do you really eat cold chili?

Of course, it's ok. You don't actually cook it when you heat it up. You are just...heating it up because it tastes better.

Ok thanks!

This is for my elderly dad who had lost the ability to feel much hot/cold sensations and was advised to stick with room temp/cold foods so he doesn't burn his mouth and esophagus. And i guess canned chili is his comfort food
