| Who went? Was it well attended - by different groups or mostly teachers, teachers unions? Is today's group gathering tomorrow too at BOE meeting or before? |

See local news stations -- maybe 5-6 cameras there with a couple beat reporters. MCEA/teachers mostly, with a few Virtual Academy families and a smattering of others. Maybe 100-120?
Tomorrow's Council and BOE meetings are during school, so probably not too many there. Expect plenty of finger pointing in those meetings, with little done, especially as there doesn't appear to be anyone besides new hires who had offers rescinded definitely out of a job. The VA got lip service and I expect that is doomed without broader support. |
They probably changed the time on purpose so teachers/families could not attend. MVA will be there. That protest was MCEA organized, MVA was invited. |
The board meeting time is standard and has been on the schedule since the start of the year. 🙄 |

Here's a video report of the rally: https://wjla.com/news/local/montgomery-county-teachers-union-protest-class-size-increase-budget-cuts-mcps-mo-co-maryland-students-education#
Looks like it was just teachers? Didn't see many parents or students. One thing I don't understand: Why does MCEA want to demand the council "fully fund" the MCPS budget when they admit Brian Hull and MCPS have bungled the finances of the school system? Furthermore, MCEA looks ridiculous asking for the budget to be fully funded when the council funded 99% of the ask. Most reasonable people would argue 99% is pretty much fully funding the budget....MCEA needs to think more strategically about its messaging. |
That's not true. The time was changed recently, hence whey they put "(Note Time Change)" in parentheses to the 6/11 meeting: https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/boe/meetings/ |
That's great for teacher employment but students and teachers will still suffer when class sizes are increased. |
That's just because the original time for the open session was 11 am, and it is now beginning at noon. |
