Paris Olympics 2024 -- General fan thread

I know it's early yet but I'm super excited about watching the Olympics this summer. The last summer Olympics was Tokyo which were the Covid Olympics and it wasn't the same of course. I am especially excited to see Simone Biles actually compete to her full potential after her bout with the "twisties" in Tokyo. Also really excited about swimming and track and field. Plus this is the first year that my kid seems to really understand what the Olympics are and is also excited having done some gymnastics and swimming. We subscribed to Peacock this year primarily for this!

What are most excited about? How will you be watching?

Excited about women’s 100m…love what I’m seeing from the ladies, this should be ShaCarri’s year. Simon Biles in what may be her final Olympics, USA basketball teams, both men and women. I can’t stand NBC coverage of the games but haven’t figured out how else I’m going to watch.

OP here and in previous years you can sometimes watch a live stream version of a lot of events on Peacock (it used to just be on NBC but now they moved it to their streaming service) that will just be the actual event with some live commentary but nothing else -- none of the time delayed package crap with manipulative backstories of athletes and their families and no obsessive focus on American athletes even in sports where they aren't that good. It's great! I highly recommend getting Peacock just for the duration of the games if you don't have it -- we got it for the winter Olympics two years ago and it was so worth it that my DH actually planned ahead this time and signed us up for a year's subscription during their Black Friday sale when it was practically free (but it's still not that pricy on a monthly basis and worth it if you really like watching Olympics).

I have become a huge track fan on the last few years from watching my HSer compete so I am excited to watch the running events and pole vault. Swimming and gymnastics are always great too

I love track and field. Can't wait to watch it.

All of it and will definitely watch the Women’s basketball team!

Swimming. The US trials start on Saturday, and in terms of swimming it will probably be a more exciting race than the Olympics because of the depth of the US swimmers. Most countries don’t have the sheer amount of tippy top swimmers, so their trials aren’t as exciting. Ours will be nailbiters because we honestly have no idea who will wind up qualifying to go.

No Clark, no Olympics

Love ShaCarri! I’m always amazed that she has such big boobs. Most sprinters are super muscular and flat. She’s not.
