| We are working with an architect to remodel our cape code and looking for attractive design ideas since we are removing the roof and rebuilding with a new second level. Looking at “modern cape cod” hasn’t pulled up a lot of good options and don’t want it to look like we just slapped on a new roof. |
| I googled "Renovation ideas for a cape cod style house" and a few books as well as websites and other sources came up. |
Sounds like your architect isn't a good fit. Find a new one who knows how to make remodels/expansions look good. This shouldn't be on you to figure out. |
| It’s probably not going to be a cape cod any more. Having the low roof and the second story dormers is a pretty defining characteristic. So you may need to look for other inspiration. |

You can make it any style you want. Once you take the roof off you're left with a rectangular box, all architectural styles start with a box. It's the roofline and finishing details that define a style.
It's up to you to decide what style you want your house to be. Then it's the architect's job to implement that style on your box. |
Thank you. While true, some home styles look better when they have more width or height. We have searched Houzz, Pinterest, and Google for inspiration so we can give the architect some ideas of our style and have him use it. The lower half will be brick and upper half hardie so we want it to look cohesive. |
