tell me about your experience with laparoscopy and hsg recovery

Anonymous
they are doing the lap both through my belly as well as through my cervix... so they can get a good look at EVERYTHING. they will also do an HSG at the same time. I'll be knocked out so wont have to feel any of the possible discomfort that could happen during an hsg but I'm wondering what the recovery is like from getting both done at the same time? or I'm even just curious about what the lap recovery was like?

thanks

hsg -noticed nothing at all.
d&c/hysteroscopy done at the same time -minimal spotting, no cramping.
laparoscopy -only discomfort was the first day or so working out the excess abdominal gas. Then towards the end of the week, the stitch dried up a little bit, and felt a little tight. They cleaned a lot out of me in the lap, and I really didn't think it was bad at all.

I've only had an HSG. It's different for everyone, but mine was kind of painful (and I did take motrin beforehand, and my tubes were clear so it wasn't that it hurt b/c of a blockage). But there's really no recovery, per se with an HSG. As soon as it was over, I felt fine. Maybe a tiny bit crampy but I drove myself home and went about my day like normal.

I had the same thing done (they ended up removing some endo while they were in there) and the recovery wasn't that bad. I had some pain in my right shoulder a couple of days later (it's from the gas they use to inflate everything so they can see) and that was worse than any of the other issues. I was out of work for three days, plus the weekend, and probably could have gone back two days after. I definitely wasn't up for doing much more than sitting on the couch watching tv, but the pain wasn't bad.

thanks everyone. OP here : )

I am wondering one thing though, during your lap did you have a breathing tube? I'm hearing mixed things about that....

1540 here. I had a breathing tube. I do recall now that I had a sore throat for a few days afterwards. I would just say have some popsicles or soup on hand.

I later had a laparotomy, and had no throat soreness. From what I understand, it has to do with size of airway, and the way the anesthesiologist puts the tube in. Either way, with the laparoscopy we are in no way talking about incapacitating pain.
