Best public golf course in DC or close to city?

| I live very near Rock Creek Golf Course and have been enjoying the course this summer as I rejoin the tortured ranks of golfers after a few years of protest. Obviously, it's not a nice course but it's perfect for someone trying to relearn the game and enjoy some time outdoors. Curious if there are recos out there for other public courses in the area. I have two little kids and can't really swing more than nine holes at a time even with a short drive to the course before DH starts getting overwhelmed with the children. So other than the couple of DC municipals, where are some good courses to try that are convenient to NW DC? |
