What is the cost typically all in? Per season? |
Varies too dramatically to say.
Volunteer coached teams will be cheaper. Academy teams will be a lot more expensive. The older they get, the more expensive it gets. |
Okay - to narrow it, what about the academy ones? And what is an example of those? Sorry total newbie |
$1k-$2k for coaching fees
$200-500 for uniforms (if you stay with the same team this can stay fairly low) $300-400/month offseason training (and during season depending) Plus hotels and travel and $50pp to get into some of the bigger tournaments to watch. |
The one we are doing this spring season is about $3k for the season plus maybe $350 for uniforms assuming you have bats and the gear. Need two pair of cleats.
Have a tournament coming up and the room is $200 per night. That's a few times a season. We pay about $150 a week for a trainer. Team we are joining next year is $3k for the whole season, plus uniforms, plus I expect travel costs to be higher. I think if you budget $10k for the whole year, you are probably safe. |
How old is the kid? For 11U and under it's about $2k plus travel for the year. 12U is more since they usually go to cooperstow and I think that's around $2k plus travel extra |
There are fall/winter and spring seasons for the first team. Second team, I meant all year. |
We spent 30K all in last year for kid's baseball travel team, 14U, counting all tournament travel, outside lessons, etc. It is not for the faint of heart! |
Omg. |
$30k! You must go to all of those invites that are sent via blast email. |
Just know that the non invite tournaments like Cooperstown, Ripken, Sports at the Beach, etc. are basically sports tourism. There are no college coaches there. They are fun and are good for your social media feed, but add nothing to your kids development. Your kid would be better offer staying home and playing in a local tournament and using the saved time/money for training. |
What team is this? Of course, the "outside lessons" can cost as much as you want depending on how many times you go. You can train 7 days a week at R&D Baseball in Sterling for $5,500 per year (you won't get one-on-one each day...but you get use of the gym and you can always ask professionals questions...and yes, you do get one-on-one training too), and play for the most elite National baseball teams like the East Cobb Astros...and it is still hard to come to $30k for the year. |
No, no, no. It needs to be fun and those are the best experiences of all. Please don’t miss Cooperstown if you get the chance! |
A fool and his money. Put that in the bank and your kid won’t need a scholarship you moron. |
For 9U we spent about 3k plus some hotel rooms (although most tournaments were driveable within an hour or so, so we didn’t get a room). |
