21 Birthday Ideas Help

Anonymous
I am the worst planning things/giving gifts. My kid is turning 21. I’m sure she’s going to want to go out with her friends for the occasion, but am I supposed to plan something? A nice dinner? Is that too boring? And what for a gift? Money seems so unimaginative and not much thought. Can someone help me please with what is typical for this age?

Help.

Take her out for dinner with her friends, then hire a limo or party bus for them to go have fun.

I'd just ask her. Offer to take her and her friends for dinner. Or if she would prefer dinner just with you and a gift like a new outfit or something for her apartment.

Is she the first of her friends to turn 21 or the last?

Take them on a trip to build memories. It doesn't have to be on exact birthday if she would rather have it with her mom and friends. Plan with her so you two can enjoy the process or but heads but come up with a mutually enjoyable plan.

Thats more like a 16th birthday idea.

If she doesn't want to go on a trip with old dad, book it for her and a friend or boyfriend.

When i turned 21 my boyfriend took me to Las Vegas, first class. But he was 38 and had the money to do so.
I should have married him.

My parents sent me 20 bucks.

OP, do something nice the kid will remember.

It was during the school year for my kids so I got them a memorable present the weekend before along with dinner out and then I sent a cake on the day. They wanted to go out with their friends. Not sure why parents have to overdo this?

This year my DD turns 22 during fall break and all her friends are going to Nashville. I will pay her portion of the Airbnb for her birthday present and take her out to dinner whenever she is able.

Well, it is a special age so I don’t know if it’s “overdoing” to be want to do something special.

Kids definitely like to do things/go places with their friends on their 21st, but an early dinner before they go out would be nice, and as far as gifts, nice piece of jewelry or flight gift certificates

continue: but I don’t know what kind of jewelry young women are into these days. I think Tiffany’s is considered “mid”?

My dd has a Tiffany necklace and earrings, the Hermes enamel bracelet and a cute silver Gucci ring. All were gifts, she’s 21. They love brands at this age.

What other brands are “in”?

My mom bought me real pearl earrings for my 21st. I wore them for years, until metal allergies took away all my jewelry options.
