| Any recommendations of a good public space with concrete wall for individual soccer practice? FFX county. |
| Some schools have handball courts that work well. |
| I have seen one near the track at Chantilly HS but not sure if it’s open to the public? I can’t remember if it’s behind a fence or not. I’ve only been there when my kid had a sports practice and lots of other people were there using the facilities. |
| Most rec centers have one near the tennis courts |

I don't have any firm suggestions, other than finding your nearest public school and going there in the summer to kick the ball against the wall of the school.
But I do find it kind of funny that a "brick wall" -- which always seemed like the most low-budget, easily available thing for any kid to find, especially low-income kids from urban environments -- is, for some of us, like a special amenity that we have to search out. |
| Oakton HS has one I believe |
| Pick any school. Don't all schools have concrete outside walls? |
you can buy a soccer rebounder that works just as well. |
|
Careful with just assuming school walls are there for your pleasure. Same reason you don’t want your kid using your garage schools don’t want you just finding a wall to pummel.
Try to find a wall intended for impact. |
Typical net rebounder or low wood based rebounder does not offer the same as a solid concrete wall |
Yes then go and do it to your own concrete wall. I'm not sure what you think you need, but it shouldn't require a concrete wall. |
So get a soccer-specific rebounder, i.e. one with a metal frame. $40 at Home Depot. |
Are you shooting cannonballs from a hundred yards? |
|
We have a metal frame rebounder with a net, and it's good, but I agree it's not quite the same as a concrete / cinder block wall.
I think with a wall, you have to kick it harder to get the right amount of rebound, whereas the net-based rebounders seem to allow a softer touch. Both are good I suppose, but a big concrete wall has some benefits, I think. |
I posted about the one at Chantilly HS. It is a standalone concrete wall seemingly built for the purpose of rebounding. I would see kids on the soccer, tennis, and lacrosse teams using it to practice. |
