| My just turned 11yr old stills seems like such a little boy. He likes Minecraft, Fortnight, Roblox etc. He also still loves nerf guns, pokemon, hot wheels, legos, and lots of pretend play. He plays baseball, and has friends, but does seem to get a long better with some of the younger boys(9/10) on his team. I am absolutely terrified for him to enter middle school as he just doesn’t seem like a teen at all. Is this normal? |
| He's not a teen though! He's a kid acting like a kid. This why I especially hate 5th and 6th grade in MS. Even young teens in MS should act like kids, because they are kids. |
| He’s not a teen. He’s 11! I have a 13 year old who still doesn’t seem like a teen for the most part. My 5th grader is more teen like in that he’s the one roaming the neighborhood going to 7-11 and Starbucks or to the park with friends. |
| Kids should be kids, do kid things throughout MS imo. You can wait to be a full blown teen til HS. |
| He’s fine!! |

My 5th grade DD is similar currently and currently at a private K-8.We did a shadow day at a public middle school and kids there were saying things like aww you're so cute. It felt like they didn't see her as a peer. That's one of the reasons we decided to stay at her current school for at least one more year.
I think your son will find similar kids or become more mature to fit in with the other students. |
| Only as an adult do I appreciate my hometown school district having separate buildings for, respectively, K-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-12. |
That's a very weird breakdown of grades. Why not just put at least 5th and 6th in elementary |
| He needs that Fortnite pedal pass |
You are describing my also recently 11 year old DS exactly. Just add in an extreme love of stuffies. In our town 5th is in Middle School so he has already been thrown into that mix. I do notice though he's hesitant to have new friends over and I wonder if it's because of all of his toys (which he very much wants to keep). I think his Fortnite abilities somehow help, but overall he still seems so young. He also looks much younger which either helps or hinders depending on how you look at it. I get it OP, and it's very normal! |

I have a 6th grade daughter who sounds like your son. She is 12 but still loves imaginary play and is really still a kid. I thought she would get eaten alive at our large public MS. I was surprised that she really likes it. A lot that is going on just goes over her head. She has found a group of friends that are like-minded and do their own thing. It has been fine.
Hoping it is the same for your son, OP! |
| Alot of parents now a days seem to fir some reason, really like their kids growing up fast like this and acting older. I don't get it, but they seem to be cool with it. |
OMG, snooty private school mom alert. My child is in public school, is 11 years old, and still plays with Barbies, as do may of her friends. Chill out, lady. |
They think it will make their kid popular. They buy their kids iPhones very early, let them have TikTok early, and give the kids freedoms they are too young for. I think these parents are idiots. |
