They have 2 kids ages 8 & 12 and I have 3 of my own so something family friendly. Trying to stear away from Mexican and BBQ which they get enough of at home!!

Yes to Clydes--especially the one at Tower Oaks. Lots for kids to look at (that doesn't look "Texan").

For Breakfast - First Watch in Rockville Town Center - a chain, but very good and reasonable, then the kids can run around in the open area outside - climb the rocks, play in the splash pad and run around - there's also a toy store and a big library. There's also a good fast food burger type place there called Five Guys. Bobby's Crabcakes - not a sit-down place - is known for their crabcakes. For lunch/dinner with kids there - Gordon Bierch has brewery type food. Lebanese Taverna (going a bit on the exotic side) has middle-eastern food - hummus, baba ghanoush, etc. and yummy. Oro Pomodoro has decent italian. (All are in Rockville Town Center)

Travel South - in Bethesda's downtown area, there's a fountain and a barnes and noble - and, there's Cafe Deluxe and the Mussels Bar (also slightly on the exotic side). As well as Jaleo (small plates). For Jaleo with kids, I would recommend lunch not dinner. I don't find them particularly family-friendly at dinner. Further north into the older downtown section of Bethesda I would recommend Louisiana Kitchen and Passage to India.

I also second the recommendation for Tower Oaks Lodge.

Good luck!

Jaleo and Mon Ami Gabi. If they like something different, Green Papaya. El Rio Grande for lunch. Fun desert, Smores at Cosi. If the like sushi, Raku.

Clayboys for shaved ice at the Corner near Barnes and Noble.

For breakfast, Le Pain Quotiden.

Green Papaya is NOT kid friendly. Been there several times with kids of all ages. Felt like none of them were welcome. Good food though!

Passage to India is one of the best Indian restaurants in the area. Bacchus of Lebanon is also very good. If you like Malaysian, Panang is also good.
