Does color protect shampoo make a real difference?

Has anyone found switching to a color protect shampoo makes (semi-permanent) hair color last longer? What are the ingredients that make the color last, is it more than just sulfate-free?

Yes. Mine makes the highlights last longer.

Color protect is just sulfate free.

Some have toners built in (purple, etc...) but that's an added feature.

I don’t color my hair any more, but when I did I could def tell a difference with the color safe or color preserve shampoos! Living in DC proper, I would also say a shower water filter would be good.
