I had assumed we would keep our sienna through the arrival of kid 5, but now suddenly understand that the two smallest kids (baby and three year old) would have to sit in the roomy captains chairs while the three bigger kid s(8,11,13, and the last two are nearly adult sized) will have to squish in the back. I’m not comfortable with putting the three year old in the back on a daily basis because I like to make sure the harness is right. And I think it’s fine to squish kids but the reality is that they will fight like hellcats and make life miserable for me. We do most driving to and from school but do like to take longer family road trips often.
Would a suburban or something Ike that fix these issues? A sprinter feels excessive (and expensive!) and we live in a city. |
| Odyssey and Kia Carnival both are 8 seaters and have middle row middle seats that can take a car seat next to another car seat, leaving one captains chair free, plus two big kids in back. I’d start there before looking at pricey full size SUVs. I’m on my third Odyssey. |

Intriguing! Can it fit rear facing infant seat(Chico) in the middle of the middle row next to toddler seat? Or is it two toddlers together only? We tried to ask the Honda dealer and the guy was baffled. We tried to simulate this scenario but had not yet bought the infant car seat and it seemed like there might not be a way to easily get to the third row.m with both installed. This could be the answer!!!!! |

not PP, but go to official Honda Odyssey webpage, take a look at the picture of the middle row with 2 captain chairs + middle seat.
We have no problem with a Diono Radian (slim) convertible car seat in the middle seat to have access to the back row. |
| I hate to rain on this hopefulness but there is not an easy way to get to 3rd row with careers in the middle row. Incidentally this is also True without 8th seat installed. If you have narrow car seat base (like the radians) you could install infant in middle, 3 year old on either side. You can fold other side seat forward and let the 8 and 11 year old climb back and let the 13 year old sit in the remaining captains chair. But climbing back with seat folded forward is akin to getting in the backseat of a 2 door car. Also it means whoever ‘owns’ the captains seat has to be the last one in. Fwiw getting around an infant seat is also kind of difficult. I have had 6 in car seats/booster seats in the odyssey but it is not easy. Sometimes the kids choose to flip over the backseat from the trunk to get in. |

What do you get for the extra $$? Is the back row much roomier? |

| Make the three big kids run alongside your smaller car so they lose weight and can fit in it. Problem solved. |
I’m pretty sure it can. Look at carmom on YouTube. She does all sorts of car seat scenarios and she has definitely done Odyssey and Carnival. Worst case the FF seat goes in the middle and the RF goes on one side. That still leaves a captains chair free in the middle for one older child. |
| Easy, Siennas are the best! |
Don’t have the 8th seat. |
Might depend on the year. Mine did. 2011 |
The depreciation on these is nuts. |
