School tour

Anonymous
I recently toured our zoned public elementary school. I asked about AAP and the tour person made it sound as though it’s not something she recommends as the child would have to go to haycock which is very big. It puts extra pressure on the child etc. I got anti aap vibes from her.

Shouldn’t aap be something they tout during the tour as an opportunity for children to accelerate their learning?

A good number of Teachers and Adminstrators do not think AAP is necessary.

Some feel that way about math before 5th grade. It's all based on the latest papers coming out of the graduate education programs.
A generation ago, tracking was good. Now tracking is not only bad, it's racist.

Why would staff at a school be excited about your kid going to a different school?

It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

It’s been substantially better than base for my kids.

AAP student can also choose to stay at local school.

I had thought that all of the elementary schools had implemented a version of LLIV, whether it be a seperate classroom, or a mixed environment. I guess I was wrong, or they inferred the wrong info to the parent. The OP's post indicates that there's not a program at the local school, which means the student would have to go to the center to get the AAP curiculium. If there's no LLIV program, they won't receive the AAP workload at the local school, albeit they can stay still if they want.

There are, indeed, a handful of schools still without LLIV. Orange Hunt is one, for example. I also think the cluster model being implement ed n some LLIV programs is encouraging people to still choose the center.

Gatehouse is really woke in 2024. That attitude metastasized down to the elementary staff level through all the woke “trainings” (read: indoctrinations) ordered by Gatehouse.

Do your child a favor and pay for a private school instead of FCPS.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion.

AAP needs to be banned entirely.

Equity is ideally meeting every individual where they are. AAP is part of equity - along with SPED, ESL, etc.

And that is how a lot of equity focused teachers and administrators feel.

They no longer see giftedness as a special learning requirement, they see it as an extension of racism.

So if you don’t teach to the lowest common denominator, you’re racist?
