Dog sitter leaving dog outside for hours

Anonymous
It’s our neighbor’s dog and we are in the northeast, so not at the dangerous heat levels yet.

The dog is left outside from 10-330, 4-930 every day since Sunday. It barks and cries the entire time.

If this was your dog, would you want to be told? I’m not close to this neighbor. Just a hello if we are outside at the same time.

Yes, I would want to be told. That is wrong and inhumane.

I would tell the neighbor, and describe the dog's behavior. Better yet, take a video. Some dogs love staying outside, some dogs respond to critters in a way that makes people think they're suffering, when they're not, and some dogs are truly miserable outside. The dog owner will decide whether their dog is suffering or not.

Yes absolutely. Give the dog water.

Yes!!! Tell!!

I would definitely want to be told, especially if this is not the schedule when the neighbors are home.

100% tell them

If this were my dog, I'd want to know so I could fire that sitter and never use their services again. That's horrible!

Take several videos at different times, and tell the neighbor.

Thanks all. Appreciate it. I will let them know.

I just peaked over the fence and it’s at the back door barking and crying. It’s always in the same spot, not wandering around having fun. He didn’t even come over to say hi to my dog when we were at the fence.

You're sure it's a compensated dogsitter and not a friend or family member? Only saying it could be more drama than you anticipate.

Please document and let them know, but keep in mind they might not care at all.

We moved to into a neighborhood with adjacent dog owners.

These Maryland (hot summer!) neighbors went overseas for 5 weeks. Left their 2 dogs outside in a makeshift fenced in area with a tailgating-like tent overhead. The dogs were outside for all 5 weeks. They were fed and given water by a teen daily. It was so hot, there were summer thunder storms, and the dogs tended to sleep all day and then stayed up all night barking for hours until exhausted. The moco police were called. Nothing was done. The animal control folks were called. Nothing happened since it was apparent that dogs were getting water, food, and had the shade of the tailgating tent. They left a we stopped by note for the owners.

The following summer, neighbor again left for weeks, though this time put the dogs in an open door 2-car garage with fencing on the open side. Truly awful. Thank goodness they moved away before our 3rd summer together.
