What does “Don’t Give Up The Ship” mean to you?

What does this mean for you personally? I’ve seen this at a hotel in New England that I stayed at and had to look it up. Then Pottery Barn used it in an ad or Crate & Barrel for a kids teen room wall decoration . This is entirely new to me. I’m not sure why I had never heard of this before.

It's literally a historic slogan about (military) perseverance.

We have it in our house. But we are far from military. It's just about persistence.

I'd take it to mean something along the lines of "don't give up".

It's from the Navy during the War of 1812.

It’s the Naval Academy’s motto. I’m an Army fan myself, but I think it’s one of the greatest college mottos ever.

It means never give up.

Op here. Thanks PPs. My grandfathers both served in the Navy pretty cool to know this.

To the PP with this in their home, where did you purchase yours?

Pretty sure it means don’t give up the ship.

My dad attended USNA. You can see this on a flag at the USNA museum or in the memorial hall.

This means you don't give up the ship to the enemy.

+1

Everyone should do the free Naval Academy tour. 2+ hours and it’s awesome. Take your teens.
