| How independent are elementary kids with getting themselves up and dressed in the morning? If there’s no school or anything else happening do you care if they stay in night clothes all morning? |
|
1) They can be very independent, to include making their own beds, practicing their instruments (they get up early and our ES starts late), and getting fully ready for the day. Or they can be lazy and grumpy and require me to micromanage them. That's true pretty much regardless of ES age or personality - kids are currently 2nd through 6th.
2) I don't let my kids wear PJs all day even on days where we have a wide-open day. They can stay in PJs for a little while, but by 9 or 10 we make them get fully ready for the day. |
| DD age 7 gets up, gets dressed and reads a chapter or two of her book and gets herself a yogurt for breakfast. I make her something else after that. She normally remembers to brush her teeth and hair but sometimes I remind her. |

DS7 gets dressed on his own. Sometimes I might tell him to grab a sweatshirt or change into different pants (if it will be hot, cold, etc.).
If there's no school he is still changing into clothes after breakfast. If we are done with activities and home for the day, sure he can get into PJs and stay in them. |
