My son came home with a cord but has no idea what it's for. Is there a key somewhere?

They always list the cord breakdown in the graduation program. I'm sure that's already printed. Call the main office, bet they can tell you.

What school and what color?
Can he ask the person who gave him the cord?

OP, your son is about to be a high school graduate. Let him figure this out.

MCPS has a policy of providing at least one cord to all graduates so that they don't feel left out. If he doesn't know what it's for, it's likely because it doesn't stand for anything in particular.

What??? You being part of graduation is not being left out. You getting the diploma is not being left out. The cord is suppose to signify an achievement of some sort.

No such policy at our HS, so if you actually experienced this at an MCPS HS graduation, perhaps it is unique to yours.

I would be curious too. Did you find out what the cord was for?

I didn’t know they did cords. My kid received a purple tassel for the superintendent’s award for having more than 240 SSL hours. NHS also has a tassel but they haven’t arrived yet so I don’t know what color.

There is also one for kids who took Financial Mathematics but no idea what color.
