Going to upper central Italy, and am deciding whether to fly out of Milan or Rome.
Milan would require a connection to Dulles. Rome would be direct. I've been to Rome twice, but never to Milan. I'm not a museum person - I prefer wandering around, looking at architecture, exploring sights/sounds of a city, eating good food in small places. Which would you choose? |

Where is "upper central Italy"? Do you have a specific final destination?
If you have been to Rome twice, I would go to Milan, or maybe a smaller city somewhat close, like Verona or Parma or Modena. |
| Rome. Milan is blah. |
| Rome. I found k only started to like it my 3rd+ time there after I did the main tourist stuff. |
| +1 on Rome |
Modena doesn't have an airport |
35 minute drive from Bologna Airport. |
Agree. We ended up in Milan at the start of our Italy trip because the airfares flying into Milan were significantly cheaper, but after two days there, we were done. There is nothing wrong with Milan- perfectly fine city with some interesting sights, but most places in Italy you can’t get enough of and want to extend your stay and/or return. Milan didn’t have that effect on us. |
| Hvent been to Rome, but been to Milan. If you can go to Verona and Milan then its worth otherwise Rome. |
| Definitely Rome, infinite things to do. |
| When are you doing this? And where is your destination? |
| I'd pick Rome over Milan but so many other Italy options.... |
