Where to go for mole removal for a teen?

Anonymous
Is there a private practice you can recommend? I'm thinking we need a plastic surgeon rather than a derm but I would take either. My derm sent me to a plastic surgeon for a tiny mole saying, "I stay in my lane." My son's mole is larger and I'm thinking it's probably preferable to get it taken care of before he grows facial hair. Any advice?

She’s a wonderful derm for regular issues but she didn’t seem interested in anything cosmetic and I felt kind of shamed for asking. For a teen, I’d have it examined by a derm first, then see aplastic surgeon for removal.

We used Dr. Oh at Children’s National when my teen needed a plastic surgeon to remove a cyst from his face. I highly recommend him.

Our dermatologist would not remove a mole on my teen son’s face. She referred to a plastic surgeon.

I’m PP. One of the plastic surgeons she recommended was Dr Mary Ella Carter out of Sibley. https://www.drmaryellacarter.com/

this is absolutely true. We saw a pediatric plastic surgeon at Children's (at their Fairfax location) but he's since retired. For small atypical moles, we go to Dr Dadlani in McLean (no insurance)
