Newport Mill MS

Thoughts / experience? I know it feeds to Einstein and I’ve found a lot of info about the HS, but nothing on the MS.

It's the same as any other middle school.. meh... you tolerate it. We've been to several MS.. all about the same.

My kid only had one really good teacher while he was there, but the teacher died halfway through the year. After that, it was pretty bleak. The principal, who is gone now, was wild.

I’ve been out for 2 years but it was as good as other middle schools then. They had a great music program which feeds into a great music program at Einstein. Same for the art program. My kids did foreign languages and jazz band. The current principal has been there about 4 years. The former principal was weak and there forever.

My oldest is just wrapping up sixth grade there, and it's been fine. It's on the smaller side for a middle school, for better or worse (I think it's a good thing). The one issue that arose with a peer was handled very well by the school, IMO. The current principal is a strong leader.

Middle schools tend to be the weakest link in MCPS generally - but I haven't seen anything to suggest kids get a substantially better experience at others than NMMS.

It’s a failing school according to the state.

I live in the Einstein cluster so happy with the schools generally in our area. I think of Newport Mill as a weaker middle school than Sligo but I don't have any evidence for that. My kids have loved Sligo and I don't necessarily think middle school is a weak link.
