For those of you with gluten intolerance or sensitives, tell me about your best GF-sandwich experience and where.
Before I had issues with gluten, I used to love Potbelly sandwiches, but those days are gone and looking for a GF-sandwich place where the bread doesn't fall apart halfway into eating it (GF breads have less elasticity and less moist, so they tend to "fall apart" a lot easier than non-GF breads) |
| I don’t think you’re going to find any good responses unfortunately. GF people tend to not eat sandwiches. Though Tryst makes a good GF wrap, made with what I believe are GF spinach Mission Tortillas. |
| Yeah…GF spouse doesn’t go out for sandwiches. We make them at home on toasted GF bread. It’s a bummer. There is that GF bakery in Bethesda, they make decent sandwiches. |
| Is Jason’s deli still around? They have Udi’s bread, which can fall apart, but they had good corned beef. |
| If you’re ever in NY, the NoGlu bakery is pretty good but the sandwiches are still nothing like the regular ones. |
| Lilit Cafe Bethesda |
| Jersey Mikes has GF bread |
| Are you Celiac? If so, I wouldn't recommend eating at a restaurant that also serves regular bread. |
| Celiac here. Don’t eat a lot of sandwiches but Lillits in Bethesda is a good choice. DC has also felt good about how Philadelphia Mike’s has avoided cross contamination risks. I’ve heard ok things about Subway but some stores are better than others. I also enjoy a lettuce wrap burger from Five Guys from time to time. |
OP here, thanks for asking, not celiac but have gluten intolerance (can tolerate some cross contamination, but eating e.g. a regular/non-GF sandwich would trigger massive headaches and fatigue lasting 2-4 days) |
| OP here, thank you all for your replies and suggestions! |
| Not celiac, but my GF spouse likes the yucca bread at Call your Mother. They can sub it for bagels in many of their sandwiches (which are great!) |

ArepaZone avocado and chicken salad arepa mmmmmhmmm
Also Rise but they are $$$ In Richmond you can find places serving sandwiches on AnnaB bread. It holds up pretty well. |
+100 The breakfast sandwich on the yucca “bread” (it’s kind of a cross between bread and a hash brown) is my dream sandwich. Right now I’m on a restricted sodium diet, but as soon as I can let up, that’s the first thing I’m going to get. |
| Josephine in Bethesda has gf baguette sandwiches. |
