…what are some things I should be encouraging my rising junior to do?
Any resource suggestions? Thanks! |
| Mine just got her first job (retail) and is going to be studying for the SAT. That’s it. |
|
For high school or college?
For high school, get a job and study for placement tests. For college, get internship yesterday. |
|
Sorry! Junior year of high school, not college.

Mine used the summer for some combination of work, SAT prep, finish driving practice to get their license, marching band camp.
And both took a 1-week pre-college program that ended up confirming their interest in their eventual college majors. |
What placement tests are a rising high school junior taking? |
| Mine had a summer job and made a ton of money after the college kids left. |
| Do we do some college visits? Or is it pointless because many campuses are empty? |

Virginia Summer Residential Governor's School for Agriculture at Virginia Tech and study for SAT/ACT

My kids (twins) got jobs. The both made almost $4K (thanks to super high minimum wage).

| We started visiting colleges sophomore summer. At the very least, start to narrow down bid/small school and city/rural school. Junior year is very busy so I would get a jump on it. Will she work or volunteer this summer? Also, study for SAT or take a SAT class. |
| Mine did some SAT prep and went on international trips. One kid to Japan and the other to Tanzania. |
| SAT prep for sure! |
We are doing short summer trips (like a weekend) just to see the surrounding area of the college. If they like the surrounding area, we'll schedule a college visit during the school year. |
| Q about SAT prep? Is the conventional wisdom still to take SAT beginning of jr. year if they've already had pre-calc? Or has that changed with digital SAT? |
