| Is it a 3.8 or a 3.9? |
| Just google it |
I did/ I’ve seen everything from a 3.8 to a 4.0 |
| 3.76 or 3.8 (rounded up) |
| 3.7 even on some sites. |
|
Mathematically, it is Neither.
(0.9391 * 4.0) = 3.7564. So it is a 3.75 GPA If the school has a formal policy in which number grades correspond to B+, A-, A, and so on, then the more usual practice is to convert each grade to the corresponding Letter and then to a 4.0 scale and then average. |
I posted earlier using the same math and would round to 3.76. |
| Thanks all. Coming from a boarding school. He’s got high rigor across the board so hopefully colleges understand how difficult it is to get an A in some of these classes. He’s only gotten a few B’s that I can think of. |
Well known boarding schools usually are also well known to admissions people. Just understand that college admissions is a lottery for an unhooked student. |
Who knows? GPA is calculated by adding up and averaging the letter grades. If you want to turn a number average into a letter GPA then you need to see what each grade turns into and then average the letters. |
Absolutely but at some point it becomes an exercise in strategy. I was reading the previous thread about Northwestern and Vandy and wondering if a kid like mine would do better Ed1 to Vandy and completely ignoring Northwestern (or a school like it) as he doesn’t have the stats. |
|
It depends. In MCPS that would be a 4.0.
(As are 90%+). |
This is ridiculous. The only GPA that is a 4.0 is a 100%. So you need 100% in all classes for a 4.0. SURE. |
| If DC has a clear preference then either ED or EA will have better acceptance odds than RD at many many schools. |
