I need a new laptop quickly. I am sick and have no desire to research. I don't want a MacBook; they're too expensive for me. The budget is around 1k, but less would be good, too.
Many thanks for suggestions, and if you got a great laptop not from Costco, please let me know the make and model. |
| I bought a Sony Vaio from Sam's Club. no issues. Works great. Was not expensive. |
Thank you so much for recommending it. |
| I’ve bought 3 Lenovo laptops from Costco and they’ve all been great. One for me, and 2 for my high school kids. A nice, mid-grade computer for a decent price. |

Best part of buying from Costco is the return policy. You can try a new machine for up to 90 days to make sure you are happy with it.
I’ve bought several laptops from Costco, they are a great retailer. |
Thank you, it is reassuring to hear good stories. |
That is what I was thinking, plus many have 32GB while ones at Bestbuy all seem to be 16. |
| What is your intended use case? What features are important to you? Do you care most about battery life, size/weight, repairability/longevity, performance, or something else? A writer will need a very different device from a gamer. |
| Each time one of my children was going off to college, we bought them a new laptop at Costco. The price was excellent (they have sales in August), they have a good return policy, and they are pleasant to deal with. Never had a problem, and all my children were happy |
| My only caution to you is order online if you can. A few years ago I was looking for a specific feature (a DVD drive on the laptop - please don't make fun of me for needing this feature as that is not the point) and found one on the website that was exactly what I needed. I figured it would be faster to go to the store and get it. I called ahead and asked about the exact model number from the website and they confirmed it was in stock. I went to the store and found the item on display with that model number, almost bought it, but luckily noticed that the display item did not have the feature. I asked the sales guy and he said something about what's in store is not exactly the same as online (which is fine but it shouldn't be listed as the same model!) so I had to go home and order online anyway. Have never had problems with ordering online from them. |
I will use it for work (limited while transitioning jobs), watching shows, and such. I am not a gamer, but I need good sound as I am hearing impaired. I would not need it, but my current laptop only works when plugged in, and I can't work like that while traveling. |
The irony is that a 1k budget is about what a Macbook costs at Costco.
|
Okay, yes, I did see that. But what is storage on those? I have never used a MacBook, so I'm not sure if I can just transition to it. |
Why would I make fun of you for wanting a DVD drive? I bought a DVD recently to watch Dune in better quality than streaming. Thanks for the advice! |
128+ GB. More than you will ever need. |
