EDP

Can someone describe the EDP experience to me, and even better if you are based in Virginia? Thank you.

What kind of experience? EDP around here is largely MD teams. They promote and relegate after each season [fall and spring]. Use Gotsport to self schedule and manage all refs through casra. Seasons have varied from our farthest team being in Baltimore to an anomaly of a Delaware or Salisbury away match once a year or so. We've seen more Virginia opponents in the last couple years. Play has varied from ncsl mid division level in EDP 5-6 to excellent in EDP 1-2. Some strong teams stay in EDP 3 past U13 because going NL [edp 1 and 2] is too much travel for their families.

It's great when you're in a division with Virginia teams. DC was usually in EDP 2 through U13 which was a combinations of big club top teams playing up a year, big club second teams, and one off teams from small clubs. That's the good. The bad is when you get a Maryland division and have most of your games in the Baltimore suburbs. Theoretically, you'd think that there would be an even distribution, but it seemed like we always had one or the other. I thought the quality of play was high. DD's team was usually second or third bracket at WAGS, lower at Jeff Cup and the competition in EDP seemed comparable

You need to provide an age group and boys or girls.

New poster but same question for Girls 2011?

EDP is a great 2nd tier league for smaller or newer clubs that can't or don't want to get into MLSN/ECNL/GA. The out of state (more than MD, PA, NJ, VA, NC) travel commitment is less, so that's less of a financial strain on the families, there are some very talented players/teams that play in EDP.

On the boys side it goes: MLSN, ECNL, EDP
On the girls side is goes: ECNL, GA, EDP

I'm not here to argue (GA vs [ECNL) vs MLSN] - just putting it into perspective for OP.

MLSN, ECNL and GA are all national platform leagues = bigger travel commitment for the players/families multiple times per year to CA, TX, AZ, FL, WA, etc.

ECNL wants both of a club's top boys and girls club in the league, so if you have a GA club and you can't get into MLSN then your boy's program will most likely end up in EDP. I assume the inverse is true, where a boys club is in MLSN and their girls play EDP.

Aren't PSA Boys in ECNL and girls in EDP?

EDP bottom divisions have been worse than NCSL top divisions for boys 2009. Mostly travel to MD, which is a pain if in VA. It is nice because it is new teams. If it is a team that has been in NCSL for years, they keep playing the exact same teams. EDP has been good for variety. I wouldn't say quality of play is better than NCSL if starting out in lower divisions of EDP.

At least on the girls side, the top EDP leagues prior to U13 tend to be future ECNL and GA teams. After U13, I think it depends on if you consider USYS to be part of EDP. If so, then it slots in behind ECNL and GA and above RL. If not, then I think it comes in behind RL
