Getting Out of St. Albans

Anonymous
Hello friends. My little charge is off to St. Albans next year and I'm unfortunately feeling a whiff of buyer's remorse, what with all the recent posts on St. Albans. In truth, this post is not about how to get out of St. Albans, which I'm sure is probably quite easy. I'm actually interested in hearing from any current parents of St. Albans boys (or others in the know) who can tell me some really happy cheerful stories about their sons' St. Albans experiences.

I had a classmate who left St. Albans after 8th grade. What was so sad about this was that when it was announced that he was leaving his school for mine, he was no longer allowed to play on the football or baseball teams, ostensibly because the playbook and signals (respectively) we used throughout the STA middle and high schools.

As a result, this student was denied athletic participation for an entire year. He went on to be a 12 letter athlete at my school, and was captain of his Ivy football team.

I would recommend talking to some of the faculty there. I know Mr. Brockway and Mr. Houston over there, and I think they would both be willing to answer your questions without giving you a sales pitch. I have never trusted admissions departments to say anything other than positive things to families they accepted.

OP here and thank you PP. I'll do that. I realize I have worked myself into an unhealthy tizzy, and maybe I'm not even thinking clearly now about my original instincts. I find I've been inexplicably moved by all the negative posts about the school.

OP is child transitioning from Beauvoir to St. Albans or another area independent school. If so I would also suggest contacting DS's current school for additional advice, recommendation, and information.

Good advice! Feeder schools can have good insight into the schools they feed to. We went to NCRC, which is a once-removed feeder to STA/NCS, and even Susan Piggot (director there) had some valuable feedback on both of the Cathedral schools, as well as other schools.

OP here. Although I appreciate the advice, I actually WAS interested in hearing from happy parents...

OP - you might want to repost with a new title. I clicked because I thought you were unhappy and looking for ways to get out.
