Paris with teens

Anonymous
Kids want to go for a few hours after we land (we're renting a car to go elsewhere). I have been many times but not recently, and they have when much younger. What can we do that is cool for teens but not a touristy thing they've already done? They said no to Versailles which I would have preferred as it avoided truly going to Paris.

Just go up the Eiffel Tower and take a ride on a bateau mouche. You'll be coming off an overnight flight.

I don't understand -- you're tourists. Why would you want to avoid touristy things?

I like walking around Monmartre, window shopping, etc.

I love the area around the Canal-St-Martin. It's fun for people watching, there are great places to eat, and also fun places to shop and window shop. It was one of the main backgrounds in the movie Amelie, so could be fun to watch that beforehand.

And if you do go, this place is really amazing. Picked up a beautiful book there.

Because we already did a lot of the touristy stuff. Just trying to think about what teens would like.

How old are they? Can you let them wander alone?

We were sick one day and our kids had a blast without us wandering around, taking trains and going out to dinner.

They do speak French though.

15 and 17. They speak French as well, but I wouldn't necessarily want them wandering around Paris all jet lagged right off the plane. They'll be free to be alone in a different French city plenty later during the trip.

My teen liked the Hollister in the 17th.
We had a “day off” due to spouse with serious food poisoning so we lived like locals for day. Haha.

And bakeries and macarons.

They also enjoyed Montmarte and seeing the Mona Lisa again.

Agree with Montmartre. Our teen also liked the Catacombs. They could shop in the Marais district.

Can’t they tell you what they want to do?
