Food at 4 year old's birthday party?

Anonymous
Trying to come up with ideas of what to serve at my DD's birthday party. It will not be drop-off so I need to feed the parents too and it is right at lunchtime. In the past, I have always served pizza but I was thinking of doing something else this year. Maybe tea sandwiches and fruit salad since there will be a girly theme (with more adult sandwiches for the adults). I would be interested in ideas for both things we can make and for prepared/take out food.

Giant has reasonable mini-sandwich platters that you can get with Boars Head cold cuts. We bought cheese separately and put that on the side with a bunch of condiments. For the kids, maybe macaroni and cheese balls? (ie, make macaroni and cheese per usual recipe, but instead of baking it in an 8 x 8 baking dish, spoon it into mini-muffin pans and top with a bit of extra shredded cheese). For a girlie theme, design your own cupcakes might be fun, just get lots of different sprinkes and toppings. And maybe a smaller cake for DD since you have the cupcakes.

We had a summer b-day so we did hot dogs and hamburgers with cut-up fruit and veggies and a pasta salad. My husband made small and large burgers. We had a small party (so maybe grilling would be too much work for a large party). I was a little afraid that people might get upset at serving kids hot dogs - as it seems like hotdogs are some sort of forbidden food. But most of the kids ate burgers.
