When to hire nanny? Mat leave ends January.

Hi there,

I’m having baby #3 later this year and my maternity leave will end in January. The two older kids are in school full time and so we don’t need a full time nanny until my maternity leave ends. The problem is .. I have heard that January is a very difficult time to find a good nanny.

Any suggestions? How have others in similar circumstances navigated this?

I’d start looking in September and be clear about start date.

OP here. I guess my question is also whether it’s even possible to find a good nanny starting in January, or if all the good ones are only available around the start of the school year.

I’ve seen parents start their nanny search as soon as they find out they’re pregnant. An agency can help you get the ball rolling, and your trial day can be having a nanny help you set up for baby before the birth.
