What time should we leave on Friday to get from the eastern half of the beltway to Shenandoah? I told my husband that the traffic will be ghastly but he wants to leave at 1pm anyway. What do you think?
It will be ghastly.
We are heading up to PA around noon. I assume it will be bad but we can get a 1/2 day of work in and do not need to arrive at any particular time.
Thursday
We are heading to Pittsburgh area on Friday. I anticipate it will be bad. Leaving when my kid gets out of school. C'est la vie.

I'd pack snacks and download an audio book and let him drive while I zone out with headphones on. 1pm on a normal Friday would be slow, but on a holiday weekend I'd expect a few stretches of only inching along for a few miles along the Beltway (possibly most of it, depending on accidents) and then crawling on various portions of 66. Meaning 3-4 miles might take you an hour.
It all depends on if it's raining (double your travel time) or if there are accidents (at least 50% longer than normal traffic). |
Leave by 9 am or sit in traffic.

OP here- I was thinking we give up and leave around 6:30 pm but DH doesn’t want to leave late and get there at dark.

If a train leaves Chicago at 9 am… 🤦♂️
